Lateral applicantsMPD Recruitment-Motorcycle-Join

If you are interested in applying for Lateral Officer position, you will need to show that you have successfully completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s (WSCJTC) Basic Training Academy or approved basic training program (see WAC 139-05-210) within the last 24 months; or a minimum of twenty-four (24) months of the last thirty-six (36) months of full-time paid service as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction. Note: All out of state applicants must successfully complete the WSCJTC Equivalency Examination within one (1) year after employment.

The hiring process for lateral applicants includes:

  • Application:  Visit our “How to Apply” page.
  • Supplemental Questionnaire: This questionnaire is independently rated as a Pass/Fail.
  • Oral Board: The final portion of the series will be an oral board evaluation (pass/fail). 

Successful completion of these components may result in a background investigation, medical examination, and other examinations or processes that may be necessary as well as subsequent interviews with the Deputy Chief and Chief of Police. All portions of the process are designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Entry-Level ApplicantsHatch-Sandoval-Ofcr

If you intend to apply for an Entry-level Police Officer position, please first register with the National Testing Network. You will need to create an account with a username and password. Once registered, you will need to schedule a time and date for the written exam and physical agility exam. 

Scores from all applicants passing both the written exam and physical agility exam will be forwarded to the City of Monroe. Eligible applicants will be invited to submit an online employment application and will be placed on a civil service eligibility list. Rank is determined by the applicant’s video test score from the National Testing Network plus any additional percentage allowed by law such as Veterans Scoring Criteria.

The subsequent hiring process may include an oral board, a background investigation, a polygraph test, a medical examination, a psychological examination, an interview with the Deputy Chief and Chief of Police, and other examinations or processes that may be necessary.
