2024 Annual Paving Project
Project Update:
ALL PAVING HAS BEEN COMPLETED FOR THE PROJECT!!! The contractor will be out on site for the next two weeks performing minor adjustments to manhole lids and water valve boxes. Periodic one lane closures will continue throughout the process. Starting Tuesday September 3, 2024, the contractor will be begin the City Wide pavement marking updates. This includes Lane Lines, Crosswalks, Turn arrows, and Stop bars all throughout the city. No Parking signs will be up along roadways 72 hours prior to any paint activities. We are asking any residents to please not park in these zones when the signs are up. Vehicles are subject to either being Towed at the Owners Expense, or risk being struck with Paint Spray. Thank you for your cooperation as we finish up this successful project.
FRYELANDS BOULEVARD: Thank you for your patience during our efforts to reconstruct NB Fryelands Blvd. and adjacent streets. We know working around construction detours can be frustrating but now the roadway has a brand new road surface.
BLUEBERRY LANE: Thank you for your patience during our efforts to reconstruct Blueberry Lane and adjacent streets. We know working around construction detours can be frustrating but now the neighborhood has a brand new road surface! We will take a short break before returning in September to reapply new pavement stripes. In the meantime, take it slow enjoy the smooth ride!
FRYELANDS BOULEVARD The week of August 5th will see the beginning of reconstructing the road surface between Wales Street and Tye Street. This effort will be divided into two phases, with different road and driveway closures in effect depending on the phase. The traffic control plan includes restricting southbound traffic to one lane, allowing northbound traffic to shift into the remaining lane. So, both directions will be reduced to one lane of travel with both of these lanes being on the west side of the grassy median strip. More detailed information is provided below:
- Wales Street - While Phase 1 is underway, Wales Street will be closed at the intersection. Detour routes will be in place, but please consider alternate routes. This would include using 152nd Street or 154th Street off of Fryelands Blvd.
- Lake Tye Park - While Phase 1 is underway, the north access to the park will be closed. Please enter and exit the park using the southerly access point across from 152nd Street SE.
- 146th Street - While Phase 1 is underway, 146th Street will be closed at the intersection. Detour into the industrial park area and local businesses using Tye Street. Alternatively, access from the east via 179th Avenue to 147th Street to 169th Drive.
- Driveways - Depending on which phase is under construction, any driveway connections to Fryelands Boulevard will be temporary blocked for safety. Please follow detour routes and utilize the business' secondary access points off of 167th Avenue and 146th Street.
The image above shows the two phases of construction, possible detour routes and roadway closures during phase 1.
Depiction of the lane shift needed to protect the work zone. The north Lake Tye access will be closed, along with Wales Street at the intersection. Southbound traffic (green line) will use the outside lane while northbound traffic (yellow line) will use the remaining lane on the west side of the grassy median strip.
As always, please drive safely, especially around construction! We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to rehabilitate this important segment of our roadway network!
Additional Project Information:
The 2024 street preservation efforts include resurfacing aging roadway surfaces, as well as updating nearby sidewalk ramps to current federal standards. When the streets are resurfaced, the process typically involves grinding away the top two or three inches of existing asphalt and then repaving with new asphalt to original grade.
The City of Monroe uses a pavement management program to help identify which streets are candidates for preservation considering both the pavement rating and available budget.
In 2022, the City Received a state grant in the amount of $798,455.00 for use along Fryelands Blvd and Blueberry Lane. The funds will go to a portion of the Road Reconstruction efforts along these roadways.
The streets for this year are depicted in the image below:
