ADA Transition Plan

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 prohibits all state and local governments from discriminating based on disability. Cities and other government agencies are required to have an ADA self-evaluation and transition plan when they grow beyond a threshold of 50 employees.

In developing its ADA Transition plan, the City of Monroe conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its public right-of-way facilities and policies to determine what types of access barriers exist for individuals with disabilities. This plan will be used to help guide future planning and implementation of necessary accessibility improvements.

While the ADA applies to all aspects of government services, Monroe’s ADA Transition Plan focuses exclusively on the public right-of-way which includes sidewalks, curb ramps, pedestrian crossings and pedestrian push buttons.
