MONROE, Wash. – The Monroe Police Department announces its achievement of accreditation status through the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC). This milestone reflects the Department’s dedication to professionalism and adherence to law enforcement’s best practices and professional standards.
“The accreditation process allowed our team to evaluate department policies, procedures, and practices so that we can attest we are working in the best interest of the community and our organization,” said Chief of Police Jeffrey Jolley. “I am especially proud of everyone in our Police Department for achieving the highest of law enforcement professional standards.”
To earn accreditation, the Monroe Police Department successfully demonstrated compliance with 146 standards covering all aspects of managing and operating a law enforcement agency in the State of Washington. The purpose of law enforcement agency accreditation is to professionalize the law enforcement industry by providing a rigorous review process, certifying agencies are operating under established best practices.
“Police accountability is important to ensure and improve public trust”, said Steven Strachan, WASPC Executive Director. “The Monroe Police Department took these direct and tangible steps to earn the public’s confidence in their operations. The community should be proud of the men and women who serve them every day.”
Benefits of accreditation include administrative and operational effectiveness, fair recruitment and employment practices, better records management, improved use of technology, health and safety, training, codes of conduct and prisoner security, among other important law enforcement tasks.
Chief Jolley and Deputy Chief Irving joined members of the Department’s accreditation team in accepting the award during the recent statewide WASPC conference held in the Tri-Cities.
