[ARCHIVED] Rent and Mortgage Relief

Rent and Mortgage Relief

Today, November 13, the City is announcing the establishment of two rent and mortgage relief programs, one for residents and another for businesses. Take the Next Step will manage the resident program, and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce will manage the business program. $40,000 has been allocated to each program.

For the resident assistance program, eligible recipients will be individuals or families whose combined household income does not exceed 80% of the Median Income Benchmark for the Seattle-Bellevue area. Applicants will submit a Self-Attestation of Eligibility Form with their application.

For the business assistance program, eligible recipients will be local businesses that were in operation and occupying commercial space in Monroe prior to March 23, 2020, and experienced a revenue reduction of at least 25% in the months of April through June of this year compared to the same period last year. Applicants will submit a company-prepared Profit and Loss Statement for each period with their application.

Under each program, eligible applicants will also submit a signed Landlord/Mortgage Holder Verification Form, in which the landlord or mortgage holder agrees to accept funds from the applicable program, and to not seek eviction of their tenant for at least one month beyond the expiration of government-issued eviction moratoriums. Funds awarded will be for rent or mortgages in arrears between April 1 and October 31, 2020, and will for up to four months of the recipient's rent or mortgage (depending on program and funding limitations), or the the amount the recipient is actually in arrears, whichever is less; payments will be issued directly to the recipient's landlord or mortgage holder.

Funds will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will open on Monday, and be accepted through November 30, or when funds have been expended, whichever is first, so applicants are encouraged to submit their application packet as soon as possible.
