Last year over 500 people came out to Lake Tye Park and enjoyed the debut of the TriMonroe – Gateway to Adventure USA Triathlon Elite Race Series and ITU Pan-American Cup race featuring men’s and women’s triathletes in both age groups and elite. The athletes came from all over the country and other parts of the world to compete at, what 3-time Olympian Hunter Kemper stated at the event – was a “fast and spectator-friendly course.” The Elite athletes were competing in this event series stop for a berth in the 2012 Olympic games in London. Many Monroe residents were able to enjoy this event in their backyard. Local hotels were also booked full this weekend as well.
