[ARCHIVED] Water receding, Community support available

Rain Storm Update 4 NF

STORM UPDATE #4: Water receding in flood spots, Community support available

 (12/12/25; 12 p.m.)

According to the National Weather Service, rain will continue today but with less intensity. Monroe, Snohomish County and surrounding areas are still under weather advisories. You are encouraged to regularly check the weather forecast online at https://www.weather.gov/sew before heading out.

Overnight flood checks were conducted again last night with no significant issues noted. Flood checks will continue over the weekend, but if you observe a road hazard within city limits (e.g. water over the roadway, tree down), please report it to us at 360-794-6100 (during business hours) or 425-239-0189 (after hours). As always, call 9-1-1 for a police, fire, or medical emergency.

If there is new information to share or if conditions change, we will publish another update.

Status as of Fri., Dec 12, 2025

  • Lake Tye/Fryelands/US 2: City and Snohomish County officials discussed concerns about potential flood impacts to Lake Tye, Fryelands Blvd. and neighborhood, and US 2 from water cresting over the levees that are part of the dike system owned and managed by the French Slough Flood Control District. Snohomish County’s evaluation of current rain forecasts and previous flood events indicate the probability of flooding in these areas is now diminished. Water levels at Lake Tye are not of concern currently and we continue to monitor.

  • Rivers: The Snohomish River/Monroe peaked yesterday around 5 p.m. with no significant issues and is receding. The Skykomish is receding as well. We continue to monitor these two rivers as well French Slough, and Lake Tye.

  • Monroe Motel and Terrace Street Apartments: Water has been receding at these properties. Some residents have been sheltered at the American Red Cross Shelter at the Evergreen Fairgrounds.

  • City Parks: Al Borlin and Sky River Parks continue to be closed as is the pedestrian bridge that connects Al Borlin and Lewis Street Park. The boat launch at Lewis Street Park, managed by the State Department of Fish & Wildlife, is closed. Lake Tye Park is open. Rotary Field will be open for the reserved use this weekend; designated parking will be available.

  • Road Closures: There continues to be no road closures within Monroe city limits. There are several road closures in Snohomish County including SR 203 in both directions between Monroe and Duvall from NE Cherry Valley Rd (MP 15) to Cherry Valley Rd (MP 18) and Ben Howard Road between SR 203 and Mann Rd. There are over 30 closures on state highways. To ensure you have the most current information, check the appropriate road closure/real time traffic maps:

If you come upon a closed road (or blocked entrance to a park or parking lot) do not under any circumstances drive around a barricade. Driving through water over a roadway is very dangerous as you don’t know the depth of the water or its current. Debris in the water is also a danger.

  • Community Support: If you or someone you knows needs food, housing, or mental health support, please view our Resource and Community Guide for agencies who can provide assistance.

Snohomish County’s Evergreen State Fair Park is managing emergency shelter for livestock at the fairgrounds and needs animal bedding and shavings: shavings, pine or fir (No Cedar). Contact the Monroe Co-Op (360-794-4663) or Snohomish Co-Op (360-568-2104) to purchase bedding or shavings. County staff will then arrange pick-up.
