MONROE, Wash. – Monroe’s Public Works Department would like the community to help name three of its snowplows by submitting suggested names starting Jan. 11. To get the contest “rolling,” submissions should be emailed to Trevor Ore, customer service specialist for the Public Works Department, at TOre@monroewa.gov by 5 p.m. on Jan. 18. City staff will review all submissions, select ten entries, and publish a survey link by Jan. 25 on its Facebook page so that community voting can begin. Community online voting ends Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. and the winning entries will be announced on Feb. 1. Contest details can be found on the Snowplow Nickname Contest webpage.
“Punny is the new funny,” notes Ore, who initiated the naming contest that got “traction” from his coworkers. “We look forward to seeing the clever names, having the community vote, and announcing the contest winners.” Ore cautions that submissions must be limited to 15 characters, including spaces, cannot be the name of the person submitting the entry, be politically inspired, and copyrighted or trademarked.
The top three vote getters will be the winning nicknames. The nicknames will be displayed on the plows for the 2024 and 2025 winter seasons.
Monroe's Public Works Department is prepared for snow and ice removal with its fleet of snowplows and trained crew members. More information about the many services the Public Works Department provides can be found at MonroewWA.gov.
