The City of Monroe sewer utility collection system transmits everything customers put down the drain or flush down the toilet to the wastewater treatment plant for processing.
Property owners provide for the care and maintenance of the pipe that leads from a home or business to the connection with the main trunk line. This pipe is commonly called a side sewer. Often, the side sewer will extend into the street to the point of connection with the main trunk line.
The City maintains a vast network of sewer trunk lines and pump stations that accept flow from connected side sewers. By design, the system transmits all wastewater to Monroe’s wastewater treatment plant where approximately 1.7 million gallons of wastewater is screened, treated, and properly discharged daily.
