Mayor Geoffrey Thomas has served communities in Western Washington since 1994. Mayor Thomas has worked as a firefighter, city and county planner, project manager, legislative analyst, and chief of staff. Mayor Thomas has worked in both local government (county and city) and in private business. In addition to professional work, Mayor Thomas has served as a Monroe City Councilmember (2003-2009), planning commissioner (City of Olympia and City of Monroe), homeowners’ association president (Monroe Foothills HOA), scout leader, youth lacrosse coach, and church director. Geoffrey Thomas has served as Mayor for the City of Monroe since 2014 and is serving in a third, 4-year term beginning in 2022.
Mayor Thomas has been married for 30 years to Lara. They have two sons who attended the University of Washington. Lara and Geoffrey enjoy spending time together and with their family and especially enjoy travelling, hiking, and cooking together. When not working, Mayor Thomas also enjoys listening to audio books and reading.
Mayor Thomas’s goals during a third term in office include working with council, residents, and employers to build on demonstrated successes and improve on areas where we can do better as a community. Central to Mayor Thomas’s goals is to work with the council and community to develop long term plans, policies, budgets, and operations that realize Imagine Monroe, that is: to ensure that Monroe is a safe place for all, where everyone is at home and everyone belongs.
